Good-bye iPhone!

Yep, that's right, you heard me say that correctly. The iPhone is history, well, at least for me. It has become history primarily for two distinct reasons; the first - I am tired of not being able to use the iPhone for what I would consider a "functionally serious" phone...I know, I know ~ the graphics are amazing and being a photography nut I love the resolution. However, you cannot open up a "mime" format email - which is pretty common, and this defeats the purpose of being able to read email on the fly and not have to be connected to a desktop pc or a laptop. Also, I really, really miss a tactile QWERTY keyboard. As a former Blackberry and Treo user, that is just what I'm used to. Steve Jobs kinda missed the boat by not producing an iPhone with a slide out keyboard. Old habits die hard, what can I say. The touch function on the phone is almost too sensitive...many times you're scrolling through the address book only to tap on the wrong address and begin calling the wrong person - predictive text, another issue. Yes, you can disable it, but not like you can on other phones. It can only be disabled word by word; the suggested word will pop up and then you have to hit the little "x" to get it to go away, I've had many a word that got texted that was quite unintended as in "OMG, that was embarrassing!" and...with web surfing, again the touch screen being so sensitive, when all you want to do is to view another part of the page, it's easy to tap something that is another link and there you go, surfing to another page that you didn't want to go to.

Okay, second main reason why it had to go...as careful as I have been I managed to drop it more than once, the last time being on the tile floor in my den. *ouch* That did in the receiver I do believe, as I was not getting any reception ANYWHERE. Okay, so fine, it's a nice iPod Touch basically, and no - it won't go up on Ebay since, hey, it is a gadget that was a part of tekkie history. One day I'll be 90 showing grandchildren the gadget that secured a place in the technology history book.

What's next you wonder? I'm currently back to the Crackberry again - not wanting to invest a lot right now - got the Curve with the rebate, so all in all, it wasn't too horribly pricey. But why in the world would I not want to splurge on my next phone? Because the Curve is not my next phone Grasshopper. I'm waiting and drooling and have been saving and saving and saving for the --> SONY XPERIA. If you haven't heard of it, Google it - check it out, this will be the iPhone killer.

I realize it's been awhile, but I'll play catch up later. I will post on the features of the Xperia and by the time I'm done with it, you'll be in line for one, too. I'll also comment on the new "Mobile Me". I think they want too much for the subscription (Steve Jobs just might be involved, surprised?) but I will ponder it considering what it can do and it will be oh, so convenient. More on Mobile Me later...supposed to be an app released this month (that would be July of 2008 depending on when you're reading this). I'm a smart-butt tonight, huh? Not sure why, LOL.

Zedge.com - this is a must-go-to site for all your ringtone needs and the best part, it's free! So download like a fiend now before they start charging for them. Yes, duh, I have all the CSI theme songs, Law & Order, etc. and with the Crackberry I'm no longer restricted from personal ringtones like I was by the iTunes monopoly that limited the fun on the iPhone. I had been using 3rd party ringtone software for the iPhone, but with the last firmware update, the software become obsolete.

Just when I thought I was done blogging for 2-nite...if you're using a Crackberry there is an iPhone-esque theme you can download. Very cool app, has the classic iPhone clownfish for the background photo & you can choose whatever icons you like. The icons look exactly like iPhone icons. Very nice interface. Also downloaded Google Maps. Okay, I'll admit it - GM's was way more cool on the iPhone, but it still works great on the Crackberry. The Crackberry is fun to use again ~ love the Blackberry Messenger feature...almost like having your little warm, fuzzy group of "friends" like on My Space. Admit it - you like that.

Oh, and Boo Boo is doing fine. He will jump up on command and land on you wrapping his front legs around your neck to hug you, and he has figured out how to turn on the TV set. Yes, he watches it (I knew what you were thinking). Now I'm used to it. It was odd at first studying late in my home office and suddenly hearing voices coming from the living room or coming home walking inside the house to hear the TV on when I knew I had turned it off before I left. Well, Boo Boo's Crackberry is not activated, so can you blame him for wanting some entertainment?
